On the first day of the 2024 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, witness a culturally significant event, Festival First Light. Rainbow Elders from Gadigal, Bidjigal, and Birrabirragal Land will conduct five simultaneous Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremonies as the sun rises over unceded Aboriginal Land. This free and community-oriented event marks the beginning of the festival and celebrates the rich indigenous heritage of Australia. Join us at various iconic locations, from Bondi Beach to Sydney Town Hall, as we honor the longest continuous queer culture in the world and welcome the global LGBTQIA+ community to this grand celebration of pride.
